Roof warranties, explained honestly

Warranty talk is where roofing sales gets slippery. Here's how the coverage actually works — including which tiers require certifications a contractor must hold, and where we stand.

Two different warranties protect a roof

The manufacturer's warranty covers the product — defects in the shingles and system components. The workmanship warranty covers the installation — the thing that actually causes most premature failures. Any honest conversation keeps them separate.

IKO coverage: what we register on every job

We standardize on IKO, so the warranty story is simple and consistent — every roof gets the same coverage, registered to you at close:

  • Limited Lifetime product warranty against manufacturing defects on IKO Dynasty and Nordic.
  • Iron Clad Protection — 15 years, non-prorated. The first 15 years are full coverage with no depreciation math, right through the window when a manufacturing defect is most likely to appear. It's coverage any installer can register — no special certification required.
  • 130-mph limited high-wind warranty on Dynasty and Nordic when installed to IKO's application requirements — which is how we nail every roof.
  • 10-year algae-resistance warranty against the blue-green streaking Gulf-Coast humidity causes.

One honest note IKO makes plainly: the Class 3 (Dynasty) and Class 4 (Nordic) impact ratings are UL 2218 lab classifications, not a guarantee against hail — hail damage isn't covered by the shingle warranty. The rating's value is helping you qualify for an insurance premium discount where your carrier offers one.

The extended tiers — and where we stand

IKO reserves its longest coverage — Iron Clad Extended Protection, which can run up to 25 years depending on shingle type — for contractors at the higher ROOFPRO membership tiers. IKO ROOFPRO applicant — and until that membership is confirmed, we will not advertise or sell the extended coverage that depends on it. When that changes, this page changes. Your estimate always states the exact warranty for your job in writing.

Our workmanship warranty

Every Northvale estimate states the workmanship warranty for that job in writing — term and coverage, on paper, before you sign anything. No verbal "don't worry, we'll take care of you." If a written promise isn't in the estimate, it doesn't exist; ours are.

What voids warranties (and how we protect yours)

  • Bad installation — off-spec nailing voids wind coverage; we nail to manufacturer spec, six-nail where wind exposure calls for it, and photograph the work.
  • Poor attic ventilation — manufacturers can reduce or deny coverage over it, and ARMA's 140°F-attic numbers explain why. We size ventilation on every replacement.
  • Pressure washing — ARMA warns it damages asphalt roofing. Algae streaks have gentler answers, including the 10-year algae-resistance warranty that comes on the IKO shingles we install.
  • Unregistered warranties — some coverage requires registration; we complete it at close-out and hand you the confirmation in the documentation packet.
